Green Shapes - The Garden of Palazzo Badoer in Venice

Palazzo Badoer is located in the "sestiere di San Polo", which is the smallest district in the city of Venice. The historical building is used today as one of the venues of the Univerità Iuav di Venezia, in which takes also place the Master in Architettura del Paesaggio e del Giardino. The main purpose of the project is the reset of the main garden and the backyard, now neglected. 

As the intention is to play with shapes, in the courtyard is used a more regular geometry, as opposed to the sinuous lines used in the main garden. The result is achieved thanks to the use of perennial grasses, that can keep their shapes through the season, combined with colorful flowers.

As a consequence of the site analysis the idea was to enhance the main garden working on it's edges: today the borders have a very low quality so the proposal is to use shrubs and tall grasses in order to make the edge thicker and to make it move towards the opposite wall. At strategic points of the garden were incorporated ornamental trees. Thanks to the repetition of the grasses it is given to the garden a sens of continuity and unity.
