ESTUDIO DEL CONJUNTO DE CASAS-CUEVA "EL RETAMAL", JUNCALILLO DE GÁLDAR, PARA LA RECUPERACIÓN DEL PAISAJE TROGLODITA DE GRAN CANARIA
STUDY OF THE GROUP OF CAVE HOUSES FOR THE RECOVERY OF THE TROGLODITE LANDSCAPE FOR GRAN CANARIA
SUMMARY
Canary Islands. Gran Canaria island; Juncalillo agricultural Valley. Cultivated landscape from the Atlantic Ocean to the slopes of the volcano ¨Montañón Negro¨. Peculiar conditions of sunlight, wind, water and humidity, define the particular climate of the valley. Characteristic Nature and Habitat with agricultural cave-houses define the presence of its people and its relationship with the landscape.
Object
The object is to protect and to create new strategies for this peculiar landscape. Landscape like an ¨Art Paisage¨ where this peculiar Habitat and agricultural cultivation system optimizes and exploits the environmental conditions of the Valley, and thus can regenerate the landscape of this rural zone with a new concept of ¨ Rural Urbanism¨.
Idea
The roofs, Terraces and Patios of the cave-houses are the most interesting element for the desing of the new landscape estrategies. Roofs, Terraces and Patios are the free spaces where the agricultural activity must be enhanced. The typical pattern of the agricultural cultivation plots is the geometric reference.
Design
The keys of the landscape, the cave-houses habitat and the weather conditions of this valley are studied like a necesary inputs. Agricultural growth on the slope of the volcano is characterized by the existence of all types of crops. It is proposed to reuse roofs, terraces and patios for the cultivation of aromatic a medicinal plants.
Connections
The existing structure of connections is based on several paths and different agricultural plots. This creates a virtual plane around the slope where the crops growth in the roofs, terraces and patio-gardens occurs. Into the system, people can interact and cohabit with the agiculture in the free spaces of the cave-houses. The idea of the intervention is to allow this grate interaction between nature, landscape and cave-houses habitat. This structure connects the patios and the agricultural terraces allowing the interaction between cave-houses and the landscape in the slope of the volcano. The proposal, also uses this existing structure of paths to make a singular space of relation for the community.
Crop types
Vegetables, fruits and aromatic and medicinal species are cultivated in the patios and terraces, the slope of the volcano is the nature.
The used crop types are:
