MYSTERY OF LANNASCAPE - AMANDARA RESORT, CHIANG MAI, THAILAND

Chiang Mai is the center of tourist attraction of northern region of Thailand. It has many beautiful places along with the uniqueness of the local culture and local traditions which reflect the charm of this region. Chiang Dao, one of Chiang Mai best natural and cultural attraction, is surrounded by upstream forest on Doi Luang Chiang Dao mountain which is a sacred mountain in Lanna belief. Chiang Dao has spectacular characteristics and sense of place which are abundant forest, endemic species animal habitat, several sacred spaces, and Lanna cultural landscape (northern Thailand culture).

This study project, AMANDARA, is a luxury 5-star resort under “AMAN” which is an outstanding 5-star resort brand. There are 3 philosophies of Aman which are peace, uniqueness, and family. The design of Aman generally uses geometric forms in natural area causing simplicity but still providing convenience to all Aman users. All buildings in the project are inspired by Lanna vernacular architecture which suit to Thai climate instead of modern architecture like other 5-star resorts. Also, the project aimed to support products from surrounded cultural communities as they can have income to be more resilient to the climate change. The concept of this project is “Mystery of Lannascape” aimed users to perceive the marvelous mountain, nature and sky which are perceptible but unreachable. Users can experience the “Mystery of Lannascape” in the different characteristics of Chiang dao landscape including mountain, forest, field, and urban that lead onto the conceptual zoning of this project.
