Restauración y mejora de los valores patrimoniales del Parc de les Aigües.
Restoration and improvement of the heritage features in the Aigües Park around the Rec Comtal mine complex
This project is part of the operation for “Restoration and improvement of the metropolitan parks network with heritage value”, with ERDF co-funding, within the priority of conserving and protecting the environment and enhancing the efficiency of resources by restoring and preserving the cultural heritage of metropolitan parks.
The project is located at the mouth of the Rec Comtal Mine Complex, which is one of the only points where this mediaeval hydraulic infrastructure appears on the surface, after being driven underground by years of urban development.
Over the years, this situation, combined with the difficulty involved in managing an infrastructure that is shared between four municipalities, created a depressed, deteriorated area, which was subject to frequent flooding that made the area impassable. The project assumes that the area is subject to flooding and includes a new terraced perimeter to overcome this uncertainty, while ensuring access to the area and enjoyment of it. The resulting topography, laid out in platforms, creates areas for observation and seating. It also includes a new strip of aquatic vegetation that fosters biodiversity, highlighting the availability of this water resource for new uses.
Previous mounds are lowered for improved visibility and safety, with a new and smooth topography and a drainage that channels rainwater. The existing vegetation is maintained, and adapted species are introduced.
Finally, the intervention includes the restoration of two unique features: the façade of the Reixagó mine building, and the ornamental fountain in the romantic garden.
