"FOUR SEASONS”

“Four Seasons” is one of the five “Episodes” that take place nearby the old-green hill, in the area of Pefka, Municipality Neapoli- Sykies in the city of Thessaloniki, in Greece.  These areas were designed in order to provide space for children to creatively and safely play while enhancing cooperation and strengthening environmental awareness through the presence of green spaces. The design principles were set to combine the landscape architectural approach, along with educational and ecological characteristics.

In “Four Seasons”, a wooden branch along the playground, accommodates games for the younger and activities for the older inside its foliage. Its aim is to bring together all ages and help them interact in a constructive way. This means, a playground for children, outdoor exercising spots for adults and the elderly, ping-pong for teenagers, as well as places for open-air chess and picnic.

The game spreads out the adjacent open spaces, with ecological coating material (stabilized ceramic flooring). Small locations are designed for adolescents and adults offering outdoor exercise equipment. Alternative paths of movement through different spatial stimuli and games create a dynamic evolving space within nature, full of challenges for imaginative play (fantasy). Thus, a vivid and pleasant place is developed, inviting and connecting the neighbourhood, promoting the diffusion of knowledge and experience through coexistence of different age groups.
