Urban livability is the ability of urban spaces to fulfill the expectations of its inhabitants for well-being and quality of life. Measurable spatial patterns underlie the emergence of livable cities. They are dictated by the quality of built and natural environments of the city enhancing economic prosperity, social stability, equity, educational opportunity, cultural, entertainment and recreation possibilities.
The landscape policy guidelines and design determinants can help in providing affordances for the same. The studio aims at analyzing the existing urban infrastructure of Pune City, the values in terms of existing natural and designed landscapes, and catering to current issues by giving landscape policy guidelines and/or design solutions to enhance the livability of the city. Hence the studio explored in understanding the role of Landscape Architects in the domain of Urban Livability and its various possibilities in varied contexts within the city of Pune, Maharashtra, India.
