Playable corner in Salvador Seguí square
Salvador Seguí Square is located in the Raval district, in an area especially affected by social problems, drugs and prostitution. The square was set up in the early 2000s in a strategy of reorganization, revitalization and improvement of the sector, next to Carrer Robadors. Surrounded by new apartment buildings and city facilities, in the heart of a very dense neighborhood.
The project is part of an operation to improve public space throughout the field, and at the same time owes a new sensitivity to children's play areas. An urban acupuncture project, made up of small, low-cost actions and at the same time a lot of change in the way the spaces work.
In one corner of the square was a standard children's play area, with conventional play models and surrounded by a fence. Game elements had unwanted occupation issues. In a participatory process, residents were persuaded not to include the play area in an enclosed enclosure with a high fence, which was their initial will, and to try a play area more integrated into the space, less defined and that do not generate corners.
Thus, a playable corner has been set up in the square. Deformations of the pavement plane. Topographies that stimulate the game, without being segregated as a specialized space.
Three pyramidal topographies are created, three hills, covered with rubber and placed in the square in an articulated way without modifying the continuous, sauló pavement. Two trees have been added to provide shade to the former enclosed playground. The hills are of earthy colors, derivations of the chromatism of the saol´de of the square also of the buildings that define its perimeter.
