Buin-Maipo Riverbank Connection Park
Final degree project
Universidad Central de Chile
The Maipo River has great regional importance because it is one of the modelers of the landscape and waters the entire valley of Santiago, flowing into the Pacific Ocean. Despite this relevance for the región, the commune of Buin has left this space in abandonment.
Within the commune the growth of the population, generated the need to look for alternative routes for vehicular decongestion, and it is here when the coastal road has taken on importance, which has become an alternative route of exit and access to the commune. Although this space has become one of the most important connections within the commune, generating connection between the localities and towards the north and south of Chile, there is a deterioration of the riverside landscape, causing not only environmental but also social problems, due to the extraction of arid and micro-dumps.
Within this context we realize the lack of linkage of the Maipo river with the commune, that in spite of being this water resource that fed its agricultural roots, at present it is disconnected from the communal plot.
In this frame, The purpose of the project is to activate a connection, that articulates the localities of the commune generating a revaluation, recovery and integration of the riverbank, formalizing a space that favors the development of leisure activities as an opportunity for sustainable public space.
