GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN

Green infrastructure in Granada seeks to promote connectivity between green areas. of the city, both the existing ones and the new ones that are intended to be created. The idea is to establish ecological corridors that allow the movement of fauna and flora, as well as people, facilitating mobility and interaction with nature.

The creation of linear parks is proposed taking the Genil River and its tributaries as the main axis, which act as true green networks in the city. These linear parks would be connected to each other, as well as to other green areas and natural spaces in Granada. In addition, the revegetation and rehabilitation of degraded urban spaces is contemplated, such as vacant lots or abandoned areas, transforming them into green areas that improve the quality of life of the inhabitants and contribute to environmental sustainability.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

Green infrastructure in Grenada carries numerous environmental benefits. First, it contributes to the conservation and protection of biodiversity, by providing spaces. suitable for the local flora and fauna, as well as for migratory species. In addition, the presence of green areas and natural spaces in the city helps to improve air quality, functioning as carbon sinks by absorbing and filtering pollutants. as well as to regulate the urban temperature, mitigating the effects of climate change and reducing the urban heat island effect. Green infrastructure also plays an important role in water management, by acting as natural or semi-natural drainage systems, and reducing the risk of flooding. The green spaces allow the infiltration of rainwater into the soil, recharging the aquifers and avoiding surface runoff.
