Lodewijk van Nieuwenhuijze (b. 1950) studied landscape architecture at the Agricultural College in Wageningen. From 1976 until 1985 he worked for the Dutch Forestry Commission and from 1980 until 1985 he was a member of staff of the Dorschkamp research institute. From 1985 until 1990 he was the senior landscape architect at the central office of the Dutch Forestry Commission and as such was the acting head of the Department of Landscape Architecture (where his projects included the Ooievaar Plan). In 1990 he founded H+N+S Advisors with Dik Hamhuis and Dirk Sijmons. His expertise is in the field of regional landscape planning and the formulation of landscape architecture concepts as part of water & land planning, natural development, dike reinforcement and water erosion.
