Plaça Palerm

The site is placed at Besòs - Maresme neighbourhood, near the river Besòs and the International Forum area of Barcelona, next to the sea.

Although the location is full of potential, now it is a poor area next to other conflictive areas of the periphery. It is mostly inhabited by people just arrived at the city.

The objective of the project is to transform an open space, into a symbolic space for the regeneration of geography and natural landscape. That is, introducing natural conditions within a Cartesian layout.

The configuration of the square includes this landscape synthesis with the formation of 'green fingers' arranged in the sense parallel to the mountain and the sea, following the curves of level that integrate vegetation following the ecological gradient. The dimension of new trees is established in relation to the buildings.

The lush pavements, with a variety of ocher, temples and red, remind us of the geological matrix strata. Its undulation refers to the movement of the waves on the beach and the conformation of the sand.

After elimination of physical barriers it is created a harmonious relationship with the peripheral areas and adjoining natural settings.

It is a new public space open and used. There is free space for games and an open playground at level with the plaza with adapted plays.
