GREEN WALL AT THE SANT ADRIÀ WASTE RECYCLING CENTRE
OBJECTIU
Reconstruir el límit perimetral de la deixalleria municipal de Sant Adrià de Besòs com a mur enjardinat, aportant així valor paisatgístic a la instal·lació.
DESCRIPCIO:
El nou mur de la deixalleria està projectat amb gabions (de 2,30 m d’alçada màxima) reomplerts de pedra en tres dels quatre costats de la instal·lació, dos d’ells molt visibles des de la ronda Litoral de Barcelona.
Aquestes dues façanes tenen gabions amb vegetació, amb l’objectiu de crear un mur verd, visible a gran distància. Estan disposats creant una quadrícula de colors, amb plantacions monoespecífiques en cada quadrat.
La vegetació és de plantes crasses, triades perquè tenen un manteniment baix, estan molt adaptades a la climatologia i l’exposició solar de la zona, i creixen lentament. Tot això estalvia molts costos i assegura l’èxit del projecte.
Per garantir una correcta implantació dels gabions amb vegetació, es van produir en un viver durant quatre mesos i després es van traslladar a l’obra.
VALORACIÓ DE L’OBRA ACABADA:
Tant l’Ajuntament com el promotor del projecte han valorat l’obra molt positivament ja que compleix amb els objectius inicials de cobrir la paret de verd i aconseguir un manteniment baix, tot això combinat amb una reducció dels actes vandàlics i la millora en el valor paisatgístic, que era el que es buscava.

PURPOSE
To rebuild the perimeter of the municipal waste recycling centre in Sant Adrià de Besòs as a green wall, thus providing landscape value to the facility.
DESCRIPTION:
The waste recycling centre’s new wall is designed with gabions (with a maximum height of 2.3 m) filled with stones on three of the four sides of the facility, two of which are easily visible from Barcelona’s Ronda Litoral (coastal ring road).
These two facades have gabions with vegetation with the goal of creating a green wall which can be seen from a distance. They are laid out to create a colourful grid with just a single plant species in each square.
The vegetation is succulents chosen for their low maintenance, their adaptation to the area’s climate and sun exposure and their slow growth. All of this means major cost savings and ensures the success of the project.
In order to ensure the proper implementation of the gabions with vegetation, they were produced in a nursery for four months and later moved to the site.
ASSESSMENT OF FINISHED PROJECT:
Both the Town Council and the project developer have been very pleased that the project meets the initial objectives of covering the green wall and ensuring low maintenance, combined with a reduction in vandalism and an improvement in the landscape, which were the goals.
