The intervention area is Via Mazzini: a road located in the center of Pordenone and, more
precisely, in the stretch between Borgo S. Antonio to the northeast and Via Oberdan-Via Pola
to the southwest, connecting the railway station to the historic center of the city.
The project envisions a redesign of the road space with an expansion of the pedestrian and
cycle areas, an improvement in the quality of the space, a reimagining of the city's historical
urban layer through the use of different materials for road paving, and an enhancement of the
artifacts and elements with historical significance. The area will also undergo traffic calming
measures.
Located in the Municipality of Pordenone, this project is part of the PISUS (Integrated Plan for
Sustainable Urban Development) and aims to regenerate the road axis that leads from the
station to the historic center of the city. From a design perspective, it has been decided to
proceed with a radical transformation of the area by removing all existing pavements and
artifacts. The design of the pavement was achieved by overlaying historical maps onto the
current layout, making the pavement a testimony to the road's historical evolution. To
emphasize the historical significance, a chiaroscuro technique has been employed, using
Repen stone and porphyry for the pavement. The same light/dark strategy has also been
applied to the furniture elements, most of which are custom-made, adopting a light or dark
color depending on their respective location. Functionally, the design intervention includes
the overall improvement of the lighting system, the rainwater collection and disposal system,
and a separation of flow systems (vehicle, cycling, and pedestrian).
