Julien Descombes attended school in Geneva, then trained as an architect at the University of Geneva's School of Architecture (EAUG), where he graduated in 1990 with Professor Herman Hertzberger. Assistant at the University of Geneva under Professor Bernardo Secchi from 1990 to 1992, he gained his first professional experience with Agence Renzo Piano in Genoa (1998-1999) and Herman Hertzberger in Amsterdam (1992-1993). Between 1999 and 2001, he completed postgraduate studies (DES) in "Architecture and Landscape" at the University of Geneva's Institute of Architecture, under the guidance of Professors Georges Descombes and Michel Corajoud.
In 2000, Julien Descombes founded the Atelier Descombes Rampini with Marco Rampini.
He regularly works as an expert for the Geneva School of Engineering, Landscape and Architecture (HEPIA), assisting with student projects and diploma courses.
