Restauración paisajística y ordenación del uso social en el estanque de La Guinardera en Sant Cugat del Vallès. Fase II
Landscape restoration and planning of the social use of La Guinardera pond in Sant Cugat del Vallès. Phase II
La Guinardera pond is located in the north-west of the municipality of Sant Cugat del Vallès, in the area created by the intersection of Europa Avenue to the west, and Via Augusta Avenue to the north. This expanse of water was created as a landscaped pond, as part of the development of the business park in the area, which protects the Guinardera stream, including it within the system of parks and preserving the existing trees.
The project is being carried out in two phases. The first involves the morphological improvement of the pond and the restoration of the sealing. The second phase, which is the focus of this intervention, aims at improving the landscape and ecology of the pond and its banks, and planning of the social use of the surrounding area.
Work is required in various areas to achieve this objective. First, the vegetation system is improved, by enhancing the existing native vegetation and adding vegetation to the edges of the water. Second, the pond is made more accessible to the public, by creating infrastructures for enjoying its surroundings that are consistent with the preservation of the natural elements, including the creation of a path around the perimeter and controlled access points to the lake for users (raised viewpoints and a floating pontoon). There are also recreation areas including lawns and gravel beaches, as well as areas for more intensive use in the form of stands. Finally, signage and posters have been added to inform visitors about the pond’s features, the effects of exotic fauna and flora, and rules for use of the area.
In terms of the area’s appearance, the aim is to create a result with a natural island effect so that the project becomes part of the natural environment. Accordingly, wood, stone (gabions and rockfill), sand and granitic sand and the vegetation itself are used as materials in the project’s various construction features.
