Viraj Chatterjee

.
Viraj is the founder and design director of ONE Landscape, an international boutique design studio specializing in contemporary landscape architecture, urban design, public art and environmental planning in Asia and Europe, with headquarters in Hong Kong and regional studios in India, Thailand and Vietnam.
Viraj studied architecture and then, fascinated by the interface between buildings and their surroundings, studied landscape architecture. These two perspectives on the built environment grant him the ability to work as a holistic designer in a multidisciplinary team and offer a new dimension to design thinking and execution.
ONE's design philosophy, 'land-culture'—a word coined by Viraj—consists of extracting inspirations from the culture and texture of the site's origin and developing them into a 'big idea' that transforms into physical spaces and tangible design elements experienced by their users. This unique approach to design has helped ONE win numerous prestigious international awards since its inception.
Viraj is affiliated with the University of Hong Kong as an adjunct professor of Landscape Architecture and with the School of Planning and Architecture of Bhopal, India, as a visiting professor. Before moving to Hong Kong, he was a part-time design studio tutor at Edinburgh College of Art, United Kingdom. He is a chartered member of the Landscape Institute of the United Kingdom and an international associate of the American Institute of Architects.
