The concept of "eco-[re]production" in Bayrampaşa revolves around upcycling as the backbone of a circular and resilient urban system. Bayrampaşa's urban fabric reflects a mix of historical infrastructure and contemporary urban pressures, making it particularly vulnerable to environmental and infrastructural challenges; this focus on upcycling as "eco-[re]production" directly addresses Bayrampaşa's vulnerabilities, such as poor waste management and flood risks, while embedding resilience into its physical and social infrastructure.
Waste, traditionally seen as a byproduct of industrial and residential activities, becomes a resource for transformation. Instead of discarding materials or relying on waste-burning systems, the project introduces a network of upcycling facilities integrated into the urban fabric. These facilities repurpose industrial and household waste into new materials, products, and even structural elements, creating an interconnected cycle of reuse and renewal. This system reduces dependency on external waste management solutions and turns Bayrampaşa into a self-sufficient urban ecosystem. Upcycling becomes not just a technical solution but also a community-building strategy.
