Adaptive reuse of Lugoj textile factory

Adaptive reuse of Lugoj textile factory

6th year project

Universitatea Politehnica Timisoara

The regeneration of the industrial site Textila starts from the fulfillment of the 5 components established in the study : the economic, social, educational, cultural and ecological component. Through these directions of approach is pursued a sustainable development, a sustainable economic relaunch, an awareness of the industrial heritage and its connection with the existing community. Agriculture, both the traditional one that is still practised by many old people that live around the location, and the contemporary, experimental one, are key proposals of the project.

The landscape concept for the site that surrounds the buildings, starts from the idea of recreating the landscape of the county in which the factory is found. This location is a typical plain landscape with a moderate continental climate that has slight Mediterranean influences. The main inspiration for the project were the regular agriculture fields, the accacia forests, and a swamp not very far away from the location.

Therefore the landscape project consits of five gardens, two of them inspired from the natural enviroment and the other three connected to the past of the factory. There is a public park - that opens the site to the community; a productive garden, where people can rent a small piece of land and have their own garden; a small floded forest, that acts like a filter between the site and the nearby railway line; a textile garden, with textile plants; and a rememberance garden, with local forgotten plants, that grow among ruins (an industrial nature garden)
