Museum and Spa in Ruins of the Mechanized Dock

Museum and Spa in Ruins of the Mechanized Dock

Taller de Título 2

Universidad de Valparaíso

The project takes care of the urban waste that industrial architecture produced, looking at urban ruins as heterotopic spaces, "spaces anchored in reality, but different enough to carry out a mental liberation”.

The architectural valuation present in the fragments is given by their evocative and symbolic power, understanding that the ruins refer to what no longer exists, but is perceived by its absence, the closest thing to an urban story of its own history.

Freezing and ruin, both concepts that seem inextricably linked when talking about urban ruins, these places that seem suspended in time, which also call into question terms such as permanence and memory.

When planning a new use for these aphasic monuments, a balance must be found between the preservation of the heritage and the granting of a new use that allows the ruins to be integrated into the landscape.

The essential operation of the project is the repositioning of a program in the gaps granted by the existing structure, that is, the proposal finds in the cracks and gaps the way to exist.

A route is generated from the space of reflection to that of enjoyment, this route is conceived as a transition between the exhibition, where the landscape becomes an exhibition and the return to the city.
