The project is located in the surroundings of the old Agell de Sant Llorenç Savall flour mill, a construction immersed in the surroundings of the Natural Park in a state of serious ruin.
In the current context of climatic emergency, the desertification of the river, erosion from torrential rains, the discharge of polluted water into the river from the sewage treatment plant, the dissociation of the river from the population and the unchecked degradation of the heritage (stone buildings, mills) show the loss of identity and the essence of the landscape.
The project consists of the structural rehabilitation and consolidation of the old Agell mill, and the recovery and transformation of its old hydraulic system for making flour into a new tertiary treatment system with vertical-flow macrophyte plant filters for treating the town’s polluted water and the water management of the surrounding area.
The old infrastructure that was used to transport water to the mill is recovered and used to treat the water and generate a new river route that enhances the historical and cultural value, regulating access and preserving the biodiversity of the riverbed and the river.
This symbiosis generates the possibility of wandering through the old infrastructure. An infrastructure buried with the passing of the years and in danger of falling into oblivion. The water and the visitor converge in its course. The experience as a mediation between the visitor, the historical past, the natural environment and the phytodepuration system as a landscaping tool in a residual space.
