Victorian Desalination Plant & Ecological Reserve
Victorian Desalination Plant & Ecological Reserve
225 hectares of the 268 hectare site have undergone one of the largest ecological restoration projects of its kind ever undertaken in Victoria, transforming cleared landscape into a rich mosaic of wetlands, coastal and swampy woodlands, and sand dune vegetation types across a constructed dune system that repurposes construction and tunnelling spoil.
The iconic element of the landscape is the camouflaged desalination plant's 26,000m² green roof, which seamlessly integrates with the Ecological Reserve.
By leading and delivering such an ambitious site plan and detailed design, the landscape architects have demonstrated new roles and directions of which the profession is capable.
