Space pairing. Historical-Gastronomical Landscape of the Mayab Mérida-Mexico (Academic contest)
Landscape architecture: urban natures
Pontificia Universidad Javeriana
The objective of the 22nd edition of the UIC Architecture Schools Academic Competition is to find the point of integration between the traditional and the contemporary, the pre-existence, and the object to be proposed. In this edition, the Hacienda Casa D’Aristi, in Mérida Yucatán, needs a proposal for a tourist-gastronomic reactivation, which involves a productive area with some of the closest local communities that exist today around the urban sprawl of the city of Mérida.
This edition chooses Mérida as the host city, both for its vast gastronomic wealth and for its climatic and social conditions, different and peculiar compared to other Mexican cities. The result should provide a solution to the entire population involved. On the one hand, the people who have developed the existing production project, the local communities, and finally, the tourists who come to this site looking for a gastronomic and cultural experience.
The focus of our exercise was on the potential for existing vegetation to add to agricultural activity. The natural logic is intertwined with the historical traces of the place to produce a new landscape.
This exercise was developed as part of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Taller Carlos Leduc Montaño).
