Edinburgh College of Art_Future Landscapes

The submission from Edinburgh College of Art includes five students from across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, presenting a series of projects from our final year thematic studio units. We encourage individual curiosity, creativity and critical thinking, supported by research led studios that introduce students to places that have pronounced environmental processes occurring. Projects cover a range of strategic designs, including; the power of urban forests to act as urban ecosystems with human and more-than-human values; the ethical issues surrounding long-term nuclear decommissioning; radical and dynamic spatial change through natural forces; the unfolding of a glaciated landscape. Each project is a unique and sensitive response to varied contexts of design inquiry, covering geographical settings of London, Northern Scotland, the Azores, and Iceland. In each context students seek out design ideas that work with environmental dynamics to bring about positive change.
