Buddhism Synthetic Image Application to Temple Gardens Designing

Landscape Plan and Design

Sichuan Normal University

This design respects the sense of places and is based on the theme of "Reconnect with Nature". It is intended to achieve the continuous symbiosis between historical culture and local tourism.

This design firstly embodies “the wonder of Tianzhao Mountain to perform ecological roles”: on the basis of maintaining the original appearance of mountains and forests, it provides people with a wide and multi-functional open space system. It makes people close to mountains and forests in order to achieve ecological and tourism harmony as well as the fusion of mountain area’s culture and green natural resources.

Second, this design expresses the “the blessing of Tianzhao Mountain to perform cultural roles”: It chooses the Fantian Temple where the topography is associated with the imagery of Buddhism—it looks like Guanyin (an East Asian bodhisattva) holding a white vase and hearing people’s voice. Through the layout of buildings and roads, it reinforces the concrete imagery; and by plant landscaping, it expresses the artistic conception of the surroundings. The overall layout is naturally integrated so that it can bring the Buddhist culture and nature together.

Third, this design highlights “the enlightenment of Tianzhao Mountain to perform social roles”: It seeks to link the outstanding characteristics of Empress Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in the history of China, with the glorious scenery, as the old saying goes —“coming into being with the heaven and earth, I am in one with nature”

The combination of design and nature and the use of concrete landscape expressions to combine mountain tourism with Buddhism and Wu Zetian culture, emphasizes the theme of harmony between man and nature, and achieves multi- performative natures.
