A greenway from the city to the Vega

Green infrastructure in the fluvial axes of Granada

University of Granada / E.T.S. de Arquitectura

It seeks to generate an ecological corridor through the axis of the historic path of Purchil, which connects the interior of the consolidated city and the peri-urban area. Today this ecosystemic and pedestrian relationship is interrupted by the ring road that generates a barrier effect. This axis will become a "greenway" from the historic Albaicín neighborhood to the Genil River, concentrating both the pedestrian itinerary with a bus line and a bike lane to promote friendly mobility. Ecological connectivity is favored by incorporating a strategy for the renaturation of the urban fabric, introducing native species in voids and residual spaces along the axis. In the area of the agricultural plain, three areas are projected as public spaces equipped on abandoned plots to introduce leisure activities along with services for productive agricultural activity that mark the route along the greenway.
