Island Factories
Master of Landscape Architecture
University of Greenwich
Over the next few centuries rising sea levels will continue to threaten island nations and seashores around the world. A new paradigm of living with the water must be envisioned.
This Island Factories project rethinks these challenges to create three productive landscapes where new islands are built. The project is based on the waterfront of the Isle of Dogs in London, the site where new man-made islands will be created, and it extends around the world to where the new islands will settle. The three pragmatic productive Island Factories create extraordinary new worlds to be populated by a single person, a family or by a large community. They will be reconfigured and migrated to new locations across the world where island nations are struggling with the reality of climate change. In this way, fluid and sustainable landscapes are created.
