The Lighthouse Route of Sardina - The Project for Capo D’Orso

The paths are considered as instruments that allow to reactivate natural and anthropized territories, landscape contexts of considerable value, redesigning ancient corridors crossing the European landscape and the architectural, environmental, cultural heritage, material and immaterial.

The "Valore Paese-Fari" Project, launched in 2015 and promoted by “Agenzia del demanio” has started the process of divesting Italian lighthouses to be able to make the conversion through actions and projects for the recovery of heritage, landscape protection and economic development.

Within this general framework, an articulated line of research has developed, of which this essay presents partial results, aimed at defining the disciplinary and methodological tools useful to governing this project by offering a system vision. The approach intended to approach the problem at two scale: the territorial scale and the architectural scale.

The lighthouse and the military battery of Capo d'Orso, placed one on the tip and the other on the crossroads, identify the geographic form of the of as a gateway to the stretch of sea of strategic value between the mother island and the archipelago of Maddalena. They belong to two settlement systems that are located in the conspicuous areas of the

coast, expressing the sense of continuity and integration between nature and architecture: the one at the bottom of

the lighthouses, placed at the limit between land and sea on the convexity of the points and in the concavities of the landings, the one on the top of the ancient military batteries (1887-1895) on the “acrocori” and the promontories.
