Lines from La Vega

Lines from La Vega

Monográfico de Urbanismo y Paisaje

University of Granada / E.T.S. de Arquitectura

The neighborhood of La Chana is a working class area located between the industrial zone of Granada and the urban center, of humble origins, is full of residential areas of the 60’s, with low prices and currently receives the arrival of the young population that suffers the precariousness and faces the deterioration of local commerce and the urban park.

Despite its position with respect to the Vega it suffers a total disconnection as a result of the construction of the highway, and the adjacent space has been forgotten in the landscape and the urban fabric, the streets do not connect with this space of the city and the pedestrian connection from Chana is punctual and insecure. The space is unpaved, almost traumatized by the passage of the train and the highway, and has been abandoned by planning or urban vision.

The project proposes a large public space that is articulated along three lines: circulation system, activity system and environment system.

The circulation system focuses on solving the problems of connection between the two sides of railway tracks. The system of activities provides a series of uses derived from the analysis of the neighborhood’s needs, which seeks locations for encounters between the different users of the neighborhood and the synergies that these produce. The system of environments acts as a green fabric that brings together the facilities, activities and organizes the routes around the basic scheme of a central path that continues the fabric of the valley and provides the city with an urban orchard park.
