When it comes to Brazilian cities centers, disregard is constant. This scenario leads us to think these parts of our cities are dead. But, in fact, we see the opposite: lively parts of the city that have a huge potential to become more attractive, but are neglected by the public policy. This project intends to get people from Teresina (northeast Brazil) closer to their own city, history and natural landscape through a contemporary design. Over the years, Teresina has suffered a lot of interventions that changed its relationship with the rivers and green areas, taking people apart from these characteristic local landscapes. How to bring these areas back to the spotlight? The design we propose considers improving the connections and ways to access the place, create pleasant areas to spend some time, get rid of the hot weather or just relax and be amazed with the natural landscape. It also values the local public life, and tries to preserve it by creating comfortable and inviting places to develop old practices together with new activities, in order to create an urban process that reflects our mixed and diverse society. Besides, this is how design and urban planning can contribute to make people feel more integrated and even take care of our urban landscapes.
