PARKINGPARK_ Regeneration of Don Gnocchi Park

The enhancement project of Don Gnocchi Park concerns a public area used both as a playground equipped for children and, occasionally during the village's summer festivals, as a parking lot corresponding to a concrete slab built in past years to host temporary structures.
The presence of the large concrete slab, which is very impactful also from a visual point of view, becomes an opportunity to ‘re-create’ a space usable by people of all ages and conditions. Thanks to slight earth mounds on the south and west sides, and the creation of large raised flowerbeds to the east and north, the concrete platform is partially covered by soil and partially hidden from external view, nestled within the gentle embankments of the lawn and flowerbeds.
Thanks to these earthworks, the containment curbs gradually transform into benches, walls equipped for games, small walls and, on the west side, form a stepped theater for performances that can take place on the slab.
The small existing playground is integrated into the redesign of the west entrance, while the games painted on the walls are designed for all age groups to encourage participation and intergenerational relationships.
In the redesign of the east entrance, the width ensures use as a parking lot during the festivals.
The choice of vegetation took into account the species' resistance to climate change. Trees were added to create shaded areas and flowerbeds with perennial herbaceous plants and grasses were created, which will evolve towards a state of balance and self-sufficiency over the years.
The intervention has a high social impact in relation to the location of the area, which is near the parish church of S. Vito of Altivole, school buildings, city sports facilities, and its proximity to the Brion Memorial, a work by Carlo Scarpa.

The intervention falls within the projects included in the Integrated Strategy for Sustainable Urban Development (SISUS), Urban and Cultural Regeneration PR Veneto ERDF 2021-2027, a program that funds interventions related to the greening of open spaces and the restoration to the community of degraded urban areas aimed at tourism, nature, sports, and cultural use. In particular, it is included in the project of the Asolano Castellana Montebellunese urban area for the high cultural impact tourism promotion of the Brion Memorial by C. Scarpa and Villa Barbaro by A. Palladio.
