Rethinking the Shore of Lake Mihailesti

Rethinking the Shore of Lake Mihailesti

Bachelor's degree project

“Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism

By taking into account the existing situation of the shore of Lake Mihailesti, it can be seen that it is completely undeveloped, which is the main reason the local rural development turned its back to the largest lake in the metropolitan area of Bucharest.

This project seeks to develop a segment of the lake's shore, adjacent to Cornetu Village. The concept consists of creating a route characterized by sequences that have the role of animating it and building a connection between the lake and the surrounding area. Following the route, in the planimetric view, the arrangement changes from rectangular shapes to organic forms, and visually, this is done by diversifying spaces and activities so that space crossing is made in a coherent way, and has key elements for keeping the visitor's curiosity along the entire route.

At the ends of the route, large-scale constructions are placed (a cultural hub in the East and a concrete platform in the West) marking the newly created space, attracting and forming new flows of people along the shore. Plant species used in landscaping were chosen so that the proposed arrangement would be animated throughout the entire year through various silhouettes and colours.

This project could increase the tourist and economic potential of the area and could be a start in terms of capitalizing on the landscape and surrounding natural elements that are currently unidentifiable.
