The work of Tony Benetton between Earth and Sky. A renewed setting in the park of Villa Marignana
Master Degree program in Landscape Architecture
Florence
This master degree in Landscape Architecture thesis, awarded with top marks and honors, provides a deepened exploration of the theme offered at the open-air museum, Park of Villa Marignana, a Venetian villa set in the municipality of Mogliano Veneto (TV), Italy.
Today the historical and artistic value of the building is an exception in the Veneto landscape. The artist Toni Benetton lived there creating an innovative space where art, nature and architecture coexist influencing each other since the 1960's.
The first part of the thesis concerned reading and interpretation of the historical sources to understand the cultural context that led to the birth and development of the architectural complex and the park of romantic - eclectic inspiration. The construction of a detailed survey, through the identification of 70 pieces of art and more than 200 trees, has enabled important reflections on the spatial, compositional and scenographyc asset of the park and on the qualitative value of each sector.
The information acquired during the analytical phase led to the preparation of project drawings that ranged from territorial scale to detailed scale. The methodological approach to the case study was appropriately resolved from both the design and its surrounding landscape defining a future vision for the entire district of Morocco. The aim of the project is to highlight the experience of the museum's functionality and redevelopment and potential disorder that can hinder the understanding of the works of art. The outdoor space has been divided into six areas with different degrees of transformation, while trying to maintain existing values of heritage in order to ensure the memory of the park. An innovative, holistic approach creates a sense of spatial and temporal continuity.
