1. Characteristics of the Prize
1.1 The MANUEL RIBAS PIERA INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE SCHOOL AWARD, with the collaboration of the Banc de Sabadell Foundation, is established to prize authors of landscape architecture projects that represent the best professional practices at an international level. From this edition, the Prize will bear the name of MANUEL RIBAS PIERA in tribute to the founder of the Master of Landscape Architecture (Annex 1.- Historical 25 years of the Landscape Biennial).
1.2 The Prize will be called and awarded every two years, coinciding with the Barcelona International Landscape Biennale, in parallel with the ROSA BARBA CANOVAS INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE PRIZE and the exhibition of the Selection of Works Made in the International Biennial of Landscape
1.3.- The MANUEL RIBAS INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE SCHOOL PRIZE in collaboration with Fundació Banc Sabadell, hereinafter the Award, is open to the 5 best landscaping projects delivered during the academic year at a university centre where landscaping is taught. Each centre will appoint a tutor, responsible for making the selection among the students' works, from courses covered in the 5 calendar years prior to the call for the Prize.
1.4.- The Prize, which will not be declared void, consists of a certificate signed by the author/s designers who presented the work, a numbered Perico Pastor lithograph and a financial endowment of €1,500 for a single award-winning school that in no case can be declared ex-aequo. There will be no entries and the finalists will be recognized in the Jury minutes. There may be honourable mentions without an endowment if the jury recognizes specific values to highlight, in parallel with the selection of finalists for the Prize, who will be present during the International Landscape Biennial.
1.5 These bases can be revised by the Executive Committee, with the prior agreement of the organizers and collaborating entities, if necessary.
2. Applications:
2.1.- All university schools of architects, urban planners and landscape designers who develop specific landscape teaching at Graduate or Master level can be candidates for the Award.
2.2. Each school/university may present a maximum of 5 works and a minimum of 3 for the prize, understanding that it is the group of projects as a whole that allows them to be chosen as finalist school/university in the same call.
2.4.- Both the members of the Jury, as well as the members of the Organizing Committee and people directly related to the organization, have the right to participate with their works up to the finalists phase, but in no case will they be considered as candidates for the Prize or to any other distinction that could be awarded.
3. Submission of candidacies
3.1 .- A maximum of 5 and no less than 3 student projects per school (expressed in 3 A3 pages per project) are requested, which develop the theme of landscape in the broadest sense, from ecology to urban public space. We emphasize that in this edition each school will be responsible for the registration of their selected projects. Students do not have the option to enter their assignments independently.
The presentation for the prize must be made by the tutors of the teaching works, following the electronic procedure indicated below:

In order to complete the filling of the form, the following data must be provided:
Each project will be presented within the provided template according to the proposed tutorial.
Selected project (up to 5):
¾ Project portal with data:
Representative image, country, university, school, academic year, project title and authors.
¾ Technical sheet with written information:
Project title (object, place), authors' names, course title (subject, PFC, workshop, research), academic year, teachers (teachers' names), department/section/programme, university/school and brief descriptive memory ( maximum 250 words).
¾ 3 horizontal format A3 sheets with graphic information:
The following are proposed: General situation plan, location plan, project plan, sections, construction details, project process (sketches, diagrams, notes), images (aerial photographs, views, renders, photomontages, model photos, collages) or any other form of expression.
All written information is to be in ENGLISH.
3.2. With their submission to the Prize, the participants are responsible for having previously obtained the authorizations of the owners of the works created - if necessary - as well as of the photographers and collaborators who could hold any type of intellectual property rights on the material provided.
The above authorizations will be extended to third parties to carry out the purpose of dissemination and promotion of the Barcelona International Landscape Biennale and the Awards associated with it, especially the MANUEL RIBAS INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE SCHOOLS PRIZE.
4. The Jury:
4.1 The Jury is composed of between 3 and 7 members, chosen by the Organizing Committee of the Landscape Biennale from among leading international personalities in the world of landscape, both for having built a work of special significance, for having decisively contributed to the development of the discipline and representatives of the IFLA (International Federation of Landscape Architects). The name and CV of the members of the Jury will be public.
4.2 The Jury is structured in the positions of President and Members appointed by the Executive Committee of the Biennale; as well as a Secretary (non-voting), exercised by the Coordinator of the Biennale. Each member has one vote - except the secretary - and in case of a tie, the quality vote of the President of the Jury prevails.
4.3 The jury will meet virtually or in person, according to the budget possibilities and in all cases the secretary will draw up minutes of the meeting, which will be sent to all members and validated by them before being signed by the President and the secretary Minutes can be drawn up in an electronic document signed with a certified electronic signature. If the meetings are virtual, the recording of the meeting will be attached to the minutes.
4.4. The Jury will be considered validly constituted when, in addition to the president, at least half of the members with the right to vote are present. Procedural agreements will be taken by simple majority of total votes; the pre-selection agreements by majority vote / and the agreements for the allocation of the prize will be taken by simple majority of votes, recognizing the President of the Jury the quality vote to decide in case of a tie.
4.5 The members of the Jury will not be remunerated for any reason, the organization of the Prizebeing responsible for covering the corresponding travel, accommodation and maintenance expenses within the reasonable standards set by the Executive Committee of the Biennale.
5. Selection procedure
5.1.- When selecting the Candidates for the Award, the Executive Committee and the Scientific Committee will make a pre-selection from among all those registered, where projects that do not meet these criteria will be excluded from the competition, and will present it to the President of the Jury for its evaluation. In any case, the Organizing Committee will meet with the President of the Jury in a previous session and explain the excluded work and the exclusion criteria. Once participants have been pre-selected, the procedure for selecting the candidate projects and awarding the Prize will be as follows:
5.1.1. A first phase of selection and always under the assessment guidelines indicated by the President of the Jury, will consist of making a selection through the Biennale website platform by each member of the Jury. The members of the Jury will be able to view all the information that the Candidates send when registering for the Prize through private access to the Biennale website. In this first phase, members will have access to view all the projects submitted to the call and will have to select the projects they deem appropriate in two categories, Selected and Finalists, with no limit on the number of projects in either category.
5.1.2. The second phase will consist of the selection of "Selected" and "Finalists" by the Jury by simple majority, which will be carried out through internal debates via Skype. The Jury will select online and by simple majority up to 300 projects for the "Selected" section that will become part of the Atlas of the Biennale, viewable on the same website. Each member of the Jury will select up to a total of 50 projects in the competition for the "Finalists" section.
5.1.3 .- Still within the second phase, each member of the Jury will choose 10 Finalists online and in voting by simple majority the first 50 selected will be defined as Finalists.
5.1.4. The third selection phase will consist of a third virtual meeting of the Jury to choose, by simple majority, between 7 and 10 works as definitive Finalists who will be eligible for the Prize, who will be informed and invited to be present at the celebration of the biennial The number of those selected and the reasons for their selection will be justified in the Act of awarding the Prize referred to in the following point.
6. Final decision and delivery of the Award:
6.1. The Jury will meet to attend the presentation of the Finalists' work and deliberate on the Award. The Jury undertakes to deliberate after the presentation of the projects of all the Finalists to have the decision taken at noon the day after the presentation of the Finalists, collecting the decision and therefore the designation of the sponsored University / School
a in the Minutes of this meeting.
6.2. The finalist universities/schools must be present to present their projects. Suppose no author or representative of the same goes to the presentation of projects. In that case, they will automatically be out of the competition since the presentation of projects is part of the competition itself. In case of absence of a member of the Jury, this will be replaced by another person to be decided by the Executive Committee.
6.3 The University/school winning the Prize will be announced during the Biennale symposium, specifically on the last day of the Biennale in a specific event for awarding the Award. The President of the Jury will deliver the same after reading the Minutes referred to in point 6.1.
6.4. The winning University/school will receive at that event a certificate signed by the author/s designers who presented the work, a numbered Perico Pastor lithograph and a financial endowment of €1,500 which will be delivered by bank transfer to the account designated by part of the winning University/school, before application of the appropriate tax obligations, according to Spanish legislation and the tax agreements applicable between the Spanish state and the state of residence of the winning University/school if it were one other different.- For purely informative purposes, it is stated that:
The University / winning school, a legal entity, will be taxed with a withholding tax. Depending on the residence of the University / winning school, these percentages may vary:
a) Residents in Spain: withholding of 19%
b) Residents of the European Union, Iceland or Norway: withholding of 19%, with the peculiarity that, as they do not have a Spanish CIF, the winning University/school will have to present a certificate of residence in the country of origin. In this case, the retention may also vary:
-Presentation of residence certificate at the origin: 19% withholding
-Without presentation of the certificate of residence at the origin: 24% withholding
c) Residents in the rest of the world and non-EU countries: the provisions of the agreement between the Spanish state and the corresponding non-EU country must be consulted. Conventions usually establish the obligation to pay taxes in the country of origin of the winning University/school. Therefore, they are exempt from withholding tax. In this case, however, they must present the certificate of residence in the country of origin, as in the case of EU countries. If this certificate is not provided, non-resident withholding tax will be applied, i.e. 24%.
-Presentation of residence certificate at the origin: 0% withholding
-Without presentation of the certificate of residence at the origin: withholding of 24
7. Intellectual property and assignment of rights:
All the materials presented at the Prize are the property of the respective authors, and in no case will the organization of the Prize ask them for any material for any purpose other than the actual celebration and dissemination of the International Architecture Biennale and the Awards associated with it Taking this into account, the return of the material to the authors, or to the winning University/school or not, is not contemplated. The graphic materials submitted to the Prize by the participants will be considered as a transfer to the Barcelona International Landscape Biennale, which in its, in turn, may transfer them to third parties for the sole purpose of:
a) be part of the Atlas of Projects of the International Landscape Biennale, publicly accessible on the website of the Barcelona International Landscape Biennale,
b) be part of the Exhibition of Selected Works of the Barcelona International Landscape Biennale and
c) appear in the publication of the pre-catalogue and catalogue of the Barcelona International Landscape Biennale of the call for the Prize where they were presented.
The contents required of the participants will be in digital format. They will be uploaded online, so they only have a dissemination function without any copy in possession of the Prize organization or any member of the Jury. Authors participating in the Award, by accepting these rules that condition participation, accept the assignment of rights to the images that represent the work for the aforementioned purposes and answer to the Organization for having produced or lawfully obtained all the materials provided, scrupulously respecting the intellectual property rights of third parties. The Organization will not be responsible for the misuse of the participants in front of third parties who could be harmed and reserves the right to expel from the Prize any participant who has violated these regulations without prejudice to criminal prosecution for violations that harm him directly or indirectly.
8. Protection of personal data
In compliance with the current regulations on the protection of personal data, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of April 27, 2016 (RGPD), Organic Law 15/1999 of December 13 (LOPD) and Royal Decree 1720/2007 of the development of the LOPD, the personal data that participants provide voluntarily when registering on the website of the Biennale and the Rosa Barba Prize, will be treated and kept for the necessary periods by the College of Architects of Catalonia as responsible for the treatment, with the purpose of offering access to participation in the Biennale and the Prize in its modalities, without communications or transfers of data to third parties unrelated to the organization of the Biennale and of the Prize.
The data provided will be kept for as long as the purpose for which they were obtained lasts and as long as their owners do not exercise any of the rights that protect them. They will not be communicated to third parties, except by legal obligation, nor will any international transfer of data be carried out without the prior consent of the holders. Once the data are no longer necessary, they will be irreversibly anonymized and treated in an aggregated manner to carry out statistics for the study and analysis of professional activities and social needs related to the Landscape.
The owners of the data have the right to request access, rectification and deletion of the same and the limitation and opposition to their treatment, for which they will have to address the College of Architects of Catalonia, with address at Plaça Nova, 5 08002 Barcelona, or send an email to dadespersonals@coac.net, together with a photocopy of their official identity document or passport, indicating the type of right they wish to exercise. Data subjects also have the right to withdraw their consent at any time. Withdrawal of consent will not affect the legality of the treatment carried out before its withdrawal. They also have the right to file a complaint if they consider that the processing of personal data does not comply with current regulations before the Control Authority (http://apdcat.gencat.cat/ca/inici).
